Its uncanny that on the day Im writing this post its raining and also the day Melinda & Jason got married last December at Flaxton Gardens just north of Maleny in the Sunshine Coast hinterland it was also raining – we are suppose to be in the middle of a Queensland summer, aren’t we !!
I really do get the best couples to photograph, Melinda & Jason as well as the bridal party, didn’t let the rain bother them even though it did mean we couldn’t continue with our original wedding location shoot plans at what has become known as ‘One Tree Hill’ in Maleny and some of the other popular Maleny locations.
The day started out photographing Jason, his brother who was the best man and his Dad before heading over to Melinda and the girls for bridal preparation photos. We had just started shooting the formal portraits outside and the rain started to fall, so it was a mad dash for the verandah to continue the portraits.
It was then onto The Little White Wedding Chapel at Maleny for the ceremony where the rain eased up until just as we were finishing the family portraits – again the rain started. We then had to make the call that we couldn’t head back out to One Tree Hill as the paddock would have been really wet and wasn’t worth getting the dress ruined even though the girls had their gumboots, so it was onto the reception venue at Flaxton Gardens for the mock cake cutting in The Barrel Room and where we remained to do the location shoot as the road trip back to Maleny was 20 minutes and quite wet and slippery. Even on the way from the church to Flaxton Gardens, we had to pull over as the rain was really heavy and we couldn’t see the road through the windscreen – it was that bad that the rain was even coming in through my sunroof.
I have to say I wasn’t disappointed at the outcome, as the grounds at Flaxton Gardens were beautiful with the hydrangers in full bloom, the classic architecture of the building and vineyards. Once the rain stopped the colours and view over Flaxton/Maleny valley were just spectacular … see for yourself.
