Country wedding photography Brisbane | Lauren & Derek

The day started out with sun peeking through clouds but there were dark clouds looming …

There is just something really special about a couple making their vows on the family property and if you met Ma & Pa, you would too – they are just the loveliest people and nothing was any trouble.  Ma & Pa did so much around the property before the wedding for Lauren & Derek to have their wedding there. Apart from lots of gardening, one such thing was changing the new looking fittings on gates to rustic fittings … I was loving that because to me the more rustic the better especially with the contrast of a gorgeous couple and a pretty wedding dress.

I actually went up to the farm a couple of weeks before the wedding and met Ma & Pa and got the grand tour of the property {doing it farm style of course, wearing my cowgirl-esk boots and riding around in the back of a ute}.  I was so looking forward to Lauren & Derek’s wedding with all the possible spots for photo opportunities.  Unfortunately the weather had different ideas.

I arrived at the farm to photograph Derek and the boys helping to set up the garden for the ceremony and it was looking like we might just survive the day without rain. The boys suits were from Strictly Formal at Milton.

I then headed off to photograph Lauren at the girls at nearby accommodation / orchard farm, Crookneck Retreat in the Glasshouse Mountains … the grounds were so pretty with macadamia trees surrounding us.  The girls hair was by Connie Jeffrey from CLJ Hair and makeup was by Monique at Zalique. Lauren wore the stunning ‘Jacqueline’ bridal gown by BellaDonna Gowns. Then it started to sprinkle with rain.

By the time I arrived back at Ma & Pa’s farm for the ceremony, the rain had set in and it was no longer going to be a garden wedding.  It was a mad rush to setup and move chairs into the lounge room for the ceremony. While it would have been a lovely garden setting, I just love the character of Ma & Pa’s lounge room and remember I was saying how special it is for a couple to marry at the family property, well you can’t get more special than making vows in the family living area. Even Lauren & Derek’s family pet Frankie was present.

Being Mother’s Day weekend, Lauren & Derek presented their mums with a bouquet of flowers each. All the girls bouquets, buttonholes as well as the bouquets presented to the mum’s were by Blossom and Twine.

Thankfully the rain eased off and we then ventured outside to the lawn for congratulations and family photos. It was then time for the guests to jump on the bus and head into The Woodford Hotel to listen to the sweet sounds of Graham Hobson on vocals and piano while they wait for the bridal party to return.

We then wandered around the property for bridal party photos and the next door neighbour brought down their horse for photos, then we all jumped in the utes for more photos but by then it was dark and time for us to head to The Woodford Hotel for the celebrations to begin including a fun photo booth session where the guests wrote a message on a chalkboard then had a photo to go in the couple’s guestbook. Lauren & Derek’s tower of cheeses cake topped by a tractor was from Farmgate Cheeses.  And then the cowboy boots came out …
