The day I walked into Vieille Branche last year, I somehow ended up taking an office space upstairs. I was there for the last 6 months of 2014. It was my kind of space to inhabit.

From Jen & JC the Vieille Branche owners, to Sue { Jen’s mum } who does framing in the old bus next door, to Jen & JC’s dog Marcel forming part of the welcoming committee, to all the creatives that came into the space whether it was to run a workshop or just gather, it was an all inviting and fun place to do business.

Vieille Branche is full of eclectic European vintage furniture and assortments that make any creative person’s imagination go wild. Needless to say it was an inspiring space to spend my days. And of course I just dreamt of photographing a wedding in the space one day. And my dream came true … I will be photographing Alana & Ian’s wedding at Vieille Branche in a couple of months.

Sadly the new year came and I did move out, just because I like to edit photos at crazy hours of the night which is so much better from home.  Plus having a cafe downstairs, just meant I wasn’t going out to cafes, something I love to do.

However I did collaborate with an amazing team of wedding vendors for a wedding inspired shoot at Vieille Branche last December.  White Magazine have featured the wedding inspired shoot on their blog – take a  look at the ‘A Quaint + Rustic Charm‘ feature.

I was excited this morning to see Holly & Robby’s Boomerang Farm wedding featured on the Queensland Brides blog.

Holly & Robby are one of the sweetest couples I’ve had the privilege to photograph. From the moment I met them, you could just tell how excited Holly was to marrying Robby. Robby was definitely the quiet one but you could still tell how much he adored Holly.

We headed to the Gold Coast for their engagement session which included their adorable fur baby, Summer, who stirred up the kangaroos of course. This will always be one of my favourite Gold Coast engagement sessions, everything just came together – cute couple and their beloved dog, the sun and natural light is my favourite light to shoot in and being amongst nature and the environment!

I loved photographing these two, that when I put out a callout for a couple for a fun shoot I was doing with a photographer friend around my then Brisbane office at Vieille Branche, as soon as they Holly & Robby put their hands up, they were my first choice. View Holly & Robby’s Albion couples portrait session.

By the time their wedding day came around, we were all good friends. I believe it helps produce better photos if a couple feels that I’m their friend on the wedding day, rather than the hired photographer. It just makes the couple feel so much more at ease while I’m snapping pictures of them on one of their happiest days as they tie the knot.

Holly & Robby chose Boomerang Farm at Mudgeeraba in the Gold Coast hinterland for their wedding. They wanted a venue that was rustic with a beautiful garden setting for the ceremony and an old wooden barn for the reception. Boomerang Farm had that perfect mix.

Holly said her favourite memory from the wedding day was “after I had finished walking down the aisle and looked at Robby, I said out-loud “awe… I wanna kiss him now!” Whoops!“.  I too will always remember that part of their wedding day too, it was just so sweet to witness a bride who was so darn excited to be marrying her groom and seal the deal with a kiss.

Holly said “I knew right from the beginning that the only two things I am going to splurge on is the photographer and videographer … “. Something I like to do for my couples, is give them some alone time during the bridal party location shoot, just to take a quiet moment to absorb the day and naturally I am capturing some beautiful candid romantic moments between them. It was so nice to then hear feedback from Holly after the wedding by saying “After the ceremony, as any bride would know, you become surrounded by people! It’s almost as if you don’t even get a moment to let what just happened sink in! Our photographer took us away to a private space away from everyone and said “take a moment for yourselves”. It was perfect. Just us, the rest of the world didn’t exist. Little did we know she was photographing us, and these are such special keepsakes.“.

Im so excited for Holly and Robby to have their rustic barn wedding picked to be featured on Queensland Brides.
